Independent
Health Care Service was established in 1992 by three nurses who had previously worked
in the public sector and were aware that due to funding restraints the existing services
were unable to meet the care needs of many people in the community.
The need for trained Carers as well as Registered Nurses was recognised so that a complete package of care could be accessed through a single organisation. Independent Health Care Service is capable of providing nursing, personal care, home help and / or handyman services.
In order to ensure that the service was truly accessible at all times an after hours communication system was initiated which enabled clients and organisations requesting assistance to contact the service 24 hours a day, by simply dialing the normal phone number.
Shortly after the service began, hospitals in the Hobart area began requesting nurses to cover staff shortages. Over time this has grown into a full Nursing Agency.
Currently
Independent Health Care Service employs around 330 Registered & Enrolled Nurses
and Personal Carers. Our staff have been carefully selected and orientated
to work
within the Community, Private & Public Hospitals and Nursing Homes
in Southern Tasmania.
In 1999 Independent Health Care Service became a Registered Training Organization with the Tasmanian State Training Authority, which allows us to conduct fully accredited Personal Carer Training courses.
Independent Health Care Service seeks to maintain a high quality of service which is both effective and efficient to our clients care needs. IHCS also strives to adequately support its staff members and provide an environment which is conducive to both personal and professional growth.
